Before calaveras and sugar skulls were kitschy, they were part of the Mexican folk art I grew up around and with. The colors, the intermingling of faiths, and what appears to be a cluttered mess to others, to me is what adds to this folk art. Mexican handcrafts and folk art is a complex collection of items made with various materials and intended for utilitarian, decorative or other purposes.
